By installing or using Step Tracker (the "Software"), including the Chrome extension and/or the native desktop application, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please uninstall and do not use the Software.
Step Tracker is a free, open-source tool that records your browser and desktop interactions — clicks, form inputs, navigation, and tab switches — as structured steps with screenshots, and exports them as PDF, HTML, Markdown, DOCX, ZIP, or WebM video reports. It consists of a Chrome extension for in-browser recording and a native desktop application (built with Tauri) for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Both include a step editor for annotating, cropping, and reordering captured steps, a session merge feature, and video export. The Software is provided at no cost and carries no subscription or obligation.
All data created by the Software — including recordings, step descriptions, and screenshots — is stored exclusively on your own device. In the Chrome extension, data is stored in IndexedDB; in the desktop app, data is stored in localStorage and the local filesystem. No data is transmitted to any external server, cloud service, or third party at any time. You retain full ownership and control of your data.
Step Tracker is released under the MIT License. You are free to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the software, subject to the conditions of the MIT License.
Step Tracker is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. The Software may contain bugs or inaccuracies. Use it at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the author(s) of Step Tracker shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Software, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or any other damages, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Step Tracker does not integrate with any third-party services, APIs, or external systems. All functionality operates entirely on your device. The desktop app's optional OS Tracker polls only a local HTTP API on your machine (127.0.0.1) and never contacts external servers. We are not responsible for any third-party websites or services you access while using the Software.
These Terms may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Software after any change constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
