Steps Recorder ("the Extension") is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store on our systems, or transmit any personal data. This policy explains what data the Extension creates, where it lives, and who can access it — which is only you.
We collect no personal information of any kind. There are no user accounts, no sign-ups, no email addresses collected, and no identifiers stored or transmitted. The Extension operates entirely offline on your device.
Recordings you create — including step descriptions, page URLs (if included), and screenshots — are stored exclusively in Chrome's local IndexedDB on your device. This data never leaves your browser and is not accessible to us or any third party. Recordings older than 30 days are automatically deleted from local storage.
Steps Recorder contains no analytics libraries, no error reporting services, no telemetry, and no usage tracking of any kind. We have no visibility into how you use the Extension, what you record, or how often you use it.
When you export a session as PDF, HTML, Markdown, or ZIP, the entire export is generated locally in your browser using JavaScript. No data is uploaded to any server during this process. The resulting file is downloaded directly to your device.
If you enable the password redaction option before export, screenshots of password input fields are replaced with a REDACTED_SCREENSHOT placeholder. This substitution is performed locally on your device before the export file is created. No unredacted screenshots are ever transmitted anywhere.
The Extension does not communicate with any third-party services, APIs, cloud platforms, or analytics providers. There are no external network requests made by the Extension itself.
Steps Recorder is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children. Because we collect no personal data from anyone, no special handling for children's data is required or performed.
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the Extension after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
